From Beats to Faces Vol.2:
Zmeyev & Screen Jazzmaster
You’ve been cooking up some jazzy heat together. How do you keep things fresh with each release, from From Side to Side to Household?
Screen Jazzmaster: Sometimes there’s a spark in our collaborations and we just sit down and start creating. We’ve been collaborating for a long time and we have the same vibe, that’s why we’ve written so many tracks together.
Zmeyev: It all depends on the mood and listening to tons of music all the time to emphasize something interesting and implement it into our tracks. That’s how you get something new, inspiration and inner sense of rhythm. And when we get together, we structure our ideas into our new creation.
Do the track titles like Freshbaked, Household, and MusicDealers suggest you’re showing off your expertise in beat-making, or is it more about what comes from the natural flow of your long-term collaboration? They definitely give a nod to who the pros are here.
Screen Jazzmaster: Every time we release an album or EP we stick to a concept, in this case that the material is made in the atmosphere of home, where the creative mess reigns and the kitchen smells of fresh baked goods.
Zmeyev: That’s right, we as experienced bakers, chefs have prepared the freshest release possible. This is the result of our labors over old tracks, learning new tricks, constant studying, accumulating invaluable experience.
If you could describe the perfect setting to listen to Household, what would it be?
Screen Jazzmaster: The ideal place for listening I think it is either sitting behind the wheel of a car leisurely moving through the streets of the city, or as on the cover – at home sitting on the couch
Zmeyev: I think the perfect setting for listening to this release is sitting in the car on the way home, working on the computer, maybe even sitting by the fireplace and shaking your head to the beat of our tracks. Immediately gives a serene, carefree feeling of relaxation and comfort.
